Pastor Chester Arthur Caylor, Jr., of Bastrop, Texas died on Saturday, November 11, 2000. He was 66 years old. He was an ordained Bishop of the Church of God.
He was born in Jasper, Texas on November 30, 1933 to Chester Arthur Caylor, Sr. and Lottie Permelia Seale.
He was married to Glenrose Lee Caylor. They were blessed with two children, Glenda Sue Caylor Wall and Randy Michael Caylor. He had three grandchildren, Alyssa Wall, Anthony Wall and Austin Wall.
He graduated from Luling High School in 1952, attended Southwest Texas University in San Marcos and Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, Texas. He earned his Real Estate License through the Austin Board of Realtors and received his Certified Property Management License through the Institute of Real Estate Management in Chicago. While employed in Property Management with Davis and Associates of Austin from 1975-1990, he was the Certified Property Manager of the Year on three different occasions.
One of his hobbies was ranching on the Yellow Rose Ranch in Bastrop County where he and his family have resided for the last several years.
Pastor Caylor had been an ordained minister for 43 years and had pastored churches in Ennis, Austin, Seguin, and Seadrift, Texas; Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; and was the current senior pastor of Gonzales Community Church of God, which he organized in May of 1994. He was also the District Overseer for the Church of God. With his heart for missions, he was instrumental in establishing and building several churches in Mexico.
Pastor Caylor was affectionately known as "Big Daddy". He had a booming voice and nobody could sing "Holy Ground", like Pastor Caylor. "WE ARE STANDING, ON HOLY GROUND, AND I KNOW THAT THERE ARE ANGELS ALL AROUND. LET US PRAISE JESUS NOW, WE ARE STANDING IN HIS PRESENCE, ON HOLY GROUND." I owe so much to this man as I was attending his church, the Austin Revival Center, when I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior. Pastor Caylor, I know for all that you did on this earth for the Lord, your rewards in heaven must be so great!
The following is taken from Pastor C. A. Caylor's funeral program:
He lives through his children and his grandchildren.
He lives through the hundreds of churches he has helped build and establish in this country and others.
He lives to the thousands of lives he has touched in so many ways.
He lives through the gifts he so generously bestowed on others - material gifts, spiritual gifts, and the gift of his wisdom and insight.
He lives through the powerful and profound lessons we learned from him and in turn, teach to others.
He lives in the memory of those who know him best and love him most.
He lives through the awesome power of our Lord Jesus Christ. "He is more alive now than he has ever been."
Poem titled "Thanksgiving", by Candace Cleghorn.
He was born in November on Thanksgiving day,
But instead of rejoicing, his mother just prayed.
Her baby was sick, broken back, diseased heart,
The doctors themselves had no hope to impart.
But that little baby belonged to the Lord,
He had to survive to preach us His word.
He was saved in November and reborn to Christ,
Now God could perform even more in in his life.
The devil almost took him in November '51,
He was stricken with polio, was almost undone.
He lay in a coma, they feared he would die,
But Pastor was always the apple of God's eye.
The month was November, the year '55,
The Lord had been faithful through all his life.
Now at last one thing for which he did plea,
He finally won over Glenrose Lee.
That was by far the greatest miracle of all,
And I'm sure he thanked God from the depths of his soul.
Isn't it strange how his life seemed to turn
'Round the month of November since the day of his birth
So many joys and so many pains
Have centered around our Thanksgiving Day.
But, this is the time to give thanks the most,
Now, in November, he's finished his course.
He always used to say "the best is yet to come."
Rejoice, come it has, he is now with the Son.
