Mrs Charles Ely Dies at Her Home
Prominent Clubwoman’s Funeral to Be Held Tuesday, Rev Paul T McClurkin Officiating
Northampton, Sept 1 – The funeral of Mrs Ada (Riley) Ely, wife of Charles E Ely, who died at her home last night, will be held at the Ely funeral home, 3 Pomeroy terrace, Tuesday afternoon at 3 with Rev Paul T McClurkin, pastor of the Edwards Congregational church officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery.
Mrs Ely was born in Lawrence August 6, 1877, the daughter of Edwin and Rosilla (Weston) Riley. After graduating from the Fort Edward Collegiate Institute in Fort Edwards, NY, her family moved to Livermore Falls, Me. While a resident of that city she was graduated from Shaws Commercial college in Portland, Me, and in the fall of 1897 she came to this city and took a two-year course at the Capen school.
Mr and Mrs Ely were married August 23 1890, at Livermore Falls, Me. Mrs Ely was secretary to her father, who was general manager of the International Paper company of Maine utile 1903. In 1912 Mr and Mrs Ely moved to this city.
Mrs Ely was president of the Maine Woman’s Relief corps when she lived in Maine, she was regent of Betty Allen Chapter, DAR, in this city for three years and was the organizer and president of the Woman’s Republican club in this city when Calvin Coolidge ran for the vice-presidency. She was also a member of the Woman’s club, Ramblers, Altruian and Friday clubs. During the World war she was in charge of the clothing committee for the Red Cross.
Besides her husband, Mrs Ely leaves two daughters, Mrs Chauncey W Pearson and Miss Genevieve M Ely of this city; two brothers, Fred E and Harold G Riley of Livermore Falls, Me; a sister, Mrs Elmer L Littlefield of Newtonville and two grandsons, Dana E and C Wright Pearson, both of this city.
