A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf with a luncheon immediately following. Private burial will take place at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.
Barney was born April 15, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Raymond W. & Rose Ann (Whitney) Kostielney. He was raised in and around Oceanside, California. He was united in marriage to Carol Ann Radomski in 1961. He later was united in marriage to Lyla J. Magness on March 16, 1974 in Portland, Oregon.
Barney had lived in Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, and Iowa working in several professions such as construction, Del Monte, Fish canery and Recycling. He was owner and operator of BLT Salvage.
Barney's greatest love was bowling and had bowled professionally in the Portland area. He bowled in leagues around the Quad-Cities until 2008. He also enjoyed the casinos in Reno and Las Vegas, betting at the dog tracks and at the Quad-City Downs.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lyla; his daughters, Rosann Kostielney of Bakersfield, California and Tiffany (Wesley) Otero of Bettendorf; his sons, Bernard (Sally) Kostielney, Jr. of Asheville, North Carolina, James (Deborah) Taylor of Maquoketa, Iowa, Michael (Maggie) Minetti of Camano Island, Washington and John (Jessica) Kostielney of Corvalis, Oregon; his grandchildren, Christopher, Christina, Jessica, Amanda, John Jr., Tiffany, Falisha, Christopher, Shalonda, Dorothy, Dereck, Lydia, Sylvia, John, Julia, Dorothy and 3 adopted grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren. His sisters, Marion (Donald) Silvers of Davenport, Joanne (Michael) Brown of Davenport and Diane (Jim) Everly of Menomonie, Wisconsin; and his brother, Blaine (Barbara) Kostielney of Dallas, Georgia,
Barney was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, "Pohl" Robert, Bruce, Bill and Rich; his nephew Donald Kostielney; and his grandson John Kostielney, Jr.
