Mr. Henry Philler, 90, graduated from Emory University and enlisted in the United States Army Signal Corps. While stationed in Alaska, he learned to use the Army's coding machine on his own. He performed excellently as a Radio Operator. Good forture allowed him to secure a position as a code breaker assigned to the White House. Mr. Philler traveled with President Roosevelt and was in Warm Springs when he died, according to his nephew, Mills Kelly. Mr. Philler was assigned the task of sending the official telegram to Washington, D.C. announcing the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. A retired technical writer, he participated in a project to improve wheelchair accessibility at his home church. Survivors are his wife, Betty Philler of Atlanta, Georgia; son, David Philler of Brunswick, Georgia; stepchildren, Chris Mills, Sally Mills Bowman and Kelly Mills of Atlanta, Georgia, and Patrick Mills of Champaign, Illinois; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held at Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Cremation Society of the South.
