Johnny's original career was as an electrician. In 1946 he enlisted in the U. S. Army. Later he captained charter boats in the Caribbean. Around 1961 he opened the Harbor Lights nightclub in Savannah. He drove a 1956 turquoise blue Ford Thunderbird sports car.
In September 1963 he finally "settled down" and married Phyllis A. Kastendike Brasse Foughner in Miami, Dade County, FL, and became a stepfather to two sons, Charles and Robert Brasse.
On December 7, 2007, Johnny died in Lakeland, Polk County, FL, and was survived by his wife and stepsons. He was buried near his parents in Bonaventure Cemetery. When his wife died in 2012, she was buried near Johnny.
