Civil War Confederate Army Officer. He served during the Civil War as Captain and commander of Company D, 1st Virginia Cavalry, and as Leuitenant Colonel of the 1st Regiment of Engineers in the Confederate States Army. Served from Manassas 1861 to Appomattox 1865.

His memoirs were published as "War Years With Jeb Stuart".
