Ethel Stewart was a 20-year-old victim of the Winecoff Hotel fire in Atlanta, Georgia on December 7, 1946. She was a senior at the University of Alabama and was in Atlanta working on an internship in merchandising at Rich's Department store. She was staying at the Winecoff Hotel on the twelve floor on the back side of the hotel and had made it through the hallway to a front side room and attempted to climb down by a sheetrope but fell to her death.
