NEW BERN - Christine Hicks Wright, born March 7, 1919, died with her family by her side on Thursday, June 7, 2012.
Mrs. Wright is the daughter of the late George and Hattie Lewis Barrow. She was born and grew up in the Vanceboro area where she attended the local schools. She was married to the late Paul Wright. They made their home in Trent Woods. Mrs. Wright was also preceded in death by her first husband, Elbert Hicks. They lived most of their life in the New Bern area.
Mrs. Wright was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was very proud of her church and enjoyed attending until her declining health prohibited her from doing so. She was also a member of the Craven Chapter No. 129 Order of The Eastern Star for 64 years.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Barbara Harwood of New Bern and step-son, Paul Wright Jr. of Redmond, Wash.; nine nieces and nephews, George Preston Barrow of Suffolk, Va., David Gaskins of Virginia Beach, Va., Doug Gaskins, Rhunell G. Everette, Barbara B. Ward of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Shirley B. Wetherington of New Bern, Gerald Barrow of Sylvania, Ga., Arvis Barrow of Ernul and Joyce B. Woolard of Vanceboro.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church P. O. Box 1510 New Bern, NC 28563.
