Byrd's parents were George W. and Frances Rebecca (Ramsey) Briscoe. Byrd's family moved to Lavaca Co., Texas from South Carolina when he was seven years old. They moved to McNeil Community, Caldwell Co., in 1877. Byrd married Martha Gray when he was twenty-one years old. They had ten children, six having died in infancy, four lived to maturity and three passed on. At the time of his death he was survived by his companion, one son, and nine grandchildren. In early manhood Mr. Briscoe professed a hope in Christ, and was united with the Methodist Church at Soda Springs. Rev. E. Homer Miller and Bro. Tom McCarley conducted his funeral. Bro Tom McCarley pointed out Byrd's Christian life as example that all would do well to follow.
