Charles Howard Inglish (NEHI)
April 1, 1914 to May 8, 2013
Charlie was born in Westville, Oklahoma to parents Charles and Ethyl Inglish. Married Ruth Dean August 15, 1942. Graduated from Sapulpa High School Where he won the State Championship in Golf in 1932. Won the Tri-State Championship in Durant and the first L.H. Championship in Ardmore. He was also City Champ in Sapulpa and Okmulgee and previously held the course record and later held the senior record at Trosper Park. He made 13 holes in one during his career. After high school, he attended Okmulgee Tech and then graduated from Phillips University with a BS Degree in 1940, where he played basketball and scored the first basket of the first All-College Tournament in Oklahoma City in 1936. During World War II he was a glider pilot and flew the Twelfth Glider into Normandy during the Allied Invasion on June 6, 1944; and also in Holland and crossed the Rhine in 1945 on his third mission. His military rank was Flight Officer in the Air Corps. He was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star, and the Good Conduct Medal. After the war, he was a Principal and football coach at Dewar High School 1946 – 1949. He received his Master's in Education from University of Oklahoma in 1947. Later, in 1949, he was the first full time Principal at Del City Elementary in the Mid-Del School District. He later was the first Principal at Highland Park Elementary in which many teachers moved with him to the new school. He retired after 30 years in 1979. Dad was very proud and thankful for all the friends and colleagues he worked with in the Mid-Del School District, golfing buddies, and staff at Trosper Park, where he played for over 50 years and was named Honorary Chairman of the Board. He was also appreciative of the parents and children he befriended through school, PTA, Del City Lions Club, Del City Christian Church, Del City Historical Society, and other civic and sporting activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ethyl Inglish; wife Ruth; and brothers George and Bill. He is survived by his daughter Deborah and her daughter Kara; sons Howard and Rick, and Rick's son Kenny and his wife Ashley and their children Makaila, Colin, and Ciarra.
Private service with a Celebration of Life Reception at Sunny Lane Funeral Home. Viewing 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday, May 10th, and Reception 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM also on May 10th.
