Dorthea Fitzer, 76, passed away Saturday, June 27, 1931, in Durant.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 30, at Diedrich Funeral Home in Durant. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.

Dorthea Horn was born November 16, 1854, in Germany. She came to the United States with her sister, Magdalena Horn to Cedar County, Iowa. Her sister married Christian Fitzer and after she passed away in 1875, Dorthea married Christian Fitzer on February 8, 1877, and was the step-mother to Augusta, Herman, Christian, Lena, Franz and Rudolf Fitzer. She and Christian farmed and were the parents of seven children, George, Julius, Clara, Emma, Walter, Albert and Hugo Fitzer. Christian preceded her in death on March 10, 1908. She later made her home in Durant.

Surviving are three sons, George (Helena) Fitzer and Albert (Mae) Fitzer, both of Luverne, MN, and Hugo (Mary) Fitzer of Durant; one-step-son, Christian (Adelia) Fitzer of Luverne, MN; two daughters, Emma (Henry) Cook of Luverne, MN, and Clara (George) Lilienthal of Durant; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Walter Fitzer, four step-sons, Herman, Franz, Rudolf and Julius Fitzer, two step-daughters, Augusta Miller and Lena Kopp and one sister, Magdalena Fitzer.
