Christian Fitzer, 69, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 1908, at his farm home near Durant.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 13, at the Fitzer home. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.

Christian Fitzer was born July 21, 1838, in Mecklenburg, Germany, the son of Heinrich Christian and Magdalena (Horn) Fitzer. His mother died in Germany. His father then came to the United States with his children and settled on a farm in Cedar County, Iowa, in 1857.

Christian married Magdalena Catharina Horn on May 1, 1863. Together they farmed in Muscatine County and were the parents of six children, Augusta, Herman, Christian, Lena, Franz and Rudolf Fitzer. Magdalena preceded him in death on August 6, 1875. He then married Dorthea Horn, the sister of his late wife, Magdalena, on February 8, 1877. They were the parents of seven children, George, Julius, Clara, Emma, Walter, Albert and Hugo Fitzer.

Surviving are his wife, Dorthea; six sons, Herman (Matie) Fitzer, Christian (Adelia) Fitzer, George (Helena) Fitzer, Walter Fitzer and Albert (Mae) Fitzer, all of Luvernfe, MN, and Hugo Fitzer of Durant; and four daughters, Augusta (William) Miller, Lena (Ferdinand) Kopp and Emma (Henry) Cook, all of Luverne, MN, and Clara (George) Lilienthal of Durant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and three sons, Franz, Rudolf and Julius Fitzer.
