BREVARD, NC - Marvin Harth Davis, 88, of Brevard, N.C., passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011, after several months of declining health.

Marvin Harth Davis was a native of Norway, S.C., where he lived for 80 years.

Mr. Davis was the son of the late John Neilie and Aileen Riddle Davis of Norway, S.C. He was born February 4, 1923, and graduated from Norway High School in 1939. He then attended Clemson University where he graduated in 1943.

World War II took Mr. Davis overseas as a lieutenant in the United States Armed Forces from 1943 until 1946.

In 1947, he married Emily Faye Rush Davis of Olanta, S.C.. After starting a dairy farm business with his brother Rhett in 1951, Mr. Davis became an educator in the S.C. public school system. He served in both administrative and teaching roles throughout his career in the school system. His last teaching job before retirement was at Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School in Norway, where he taught high school physics, chemistry and biology.

Mr. Davis owned and operated MHD Farms in Norway from 1965 until 1988. During this time he was very active in his community. He was a member of St. John's Methodist Church in Norway where he served as Sunday School teacher, choir member, and Lay Leader. He organized a Boy Scout troop in the community, and he was recognized in 1972 by the State Boy Scout association for his outstanding leadership. Mr. Davis was also active in various organizations related to his dairy farm. These organizations include the S.C. Dairy Association, Holstein Freisian Association, and S.C. State Forestry Commission. Later in life, Mr. Davis created an Outreach Ministry in his community called Helping Hands.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emily Faye Rush Davis, son, Bob (Sheila) Davis, son, Neil Davis of Cope, and granddaughters, Meagan Davis and Mandy Hovestadt of Rock Hill, S.C., daughter-in-law, Jeanie Davis, and granddaughter, Ali Davis of Bishopville, S.C., granddaughter, Corrie Davis of Pawley's Island, S.C., grandchildren, Tyler and Brannden Henrikson of Charleston, S.C., daughter, Ann Davis (Nick) Holshouser, grandchildren, Emily and Theo Holshouser of Brevard, N.C.

Mr. Davis' death was preceded by his son, Marvin Franklin Davis of Bishopville, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials should be sent to The Stephen's Ministry, First United Methodist Church, 325 North Broad St., Brevard, NC 28712. The family has entrusted Dyches Funeral Home and Crematory.
