Gladys Morse, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Morse, was born in Iowa on Feb 24, 1906.
The family moved to the Wagner area when she was a tiny baby. She attended the Wagner High School and became a telephone operator for Dakota Central Telephone Company, where she worked for about ten years, later transferring to Lake Andes and Shelby.
She married Silas Chatfield on June 4, 1928. In 1942 they moved to Seattle, Washington where both of them worked in the shipyards until the end of the war. After the war she worked as a supervisor with Pacific Northwest Bell until her retirement in 1965.
Her husband passed away in 1955 and in 1965 she married Edward Kohler, who died suddenly in 1966.
Gladys then moved to Walnut Creek, California. She spent three years in a convalescent hospital, where she passed away August 31.
She was laid to rest in the Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, California.
She leaves her sister Mrs Oscar Overgaard (Mae) of Oakland, Calif; a sister-in-law Mrs Minnie Morse of Wagner; several nieces and nephews and many old friends in the Wagner area.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, three brothers and 1 sister. The Wagner Post Thursday Sept 21, 1978.
