In the name of God Amen I Thomas Chatfield of the parish of Appledram in the County of Sussex, Yeoman. do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and force following (that is to say)
First I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God believing remission of sins and everlasting life by the merits death and passion of Jesus Christ my alone Saviour and Redeemer my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried and dispose of my worldly estate as follows, that is to say FIRST I give and bequeath all that my household goods, stock of cattle, carts, waggons, ploughs and harrows and all other my stock of implements of husbandry of what nature or kind soever now standing and being in and about the farm called Church Farm in Appledram, aforesaid, wherein I now live unto my son Thomas Chatfield, his executors, assigns and assignees for ever also I give and bequeath unto my son John Chatfield the sum of two hundred pounds to be paid unto him, by my executors in trust, when he shall attain his age of twenty one years.
ALSO I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Chatfield the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid unto her by my Executors in trust within three months next after my decease
ALSO I give and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary the sum of fifty pounds more to be paid her within three years next after my decease ALSO I give and bequeath unto my daughter Frances Chatfield the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid unto her, by my executors in trust, within three months next after my decease.
ALSO I give and bequeath unto my said daughter Frances the sum of fifty pounds more to be paid unto her within three years next after my decease ALSO all the rest, residue and remainder of all my goods and chattels and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever after my debts legacies and funeral expenses are paid and discharged, I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Chatfield his executors and administrators.
ALSO I make and appoint my friends John Copis of Emsworth in the County of Southampton, Shipwright and Bassal Forder of Siddlesham in the County of Sussex, husbandman, joint executors in trust of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former and other wilts by me at any time hereto made
IN WITNESS whereof I have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal the sixth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty seven. - Thomas Chatfield - Signed, sealed, published and declared by the testator Thomas Chatfield in our presence who subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence and at the request of the said testator by us Mandwell, James Goble.
