Auckland Star, Volume LXXIII, Issue 115, 18 May 1942, Page 6
Died 6 Woodside Road, Mount Eden. Born Auckland, he went to sea in 1905 and travelled widely on sailing ships.
In 1911 he joined the Union Steam Ship Company Ltd., and became well known on the inter island trade as captain of the Tofua. During WWI he was second mate on chiefly foreign-going ships. After the war he served on inter-colonial and coastal boats.
He was appointed master in 1923 and retired from the sea in 1936 when he was appointed wharfinger for the company at New Plymouth. In 1939 he retired owing to ill health and returned to Auckland.
He was married twice and is survived by his second wife, two daughters from the first marriage and one son from the second.
