Dayton was assigned to the Heavy Mortar Company, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. His specialty was a Medical Aidman (Medic). He was listed as Killed in Action/Missing while fighting the enemy in the Chorwon Area of North Korea. His remains still haven't been recovered.
For his actions in the Korean War, he was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense, Korean Service, United Nations Service and Republic of Korea War Service Medals. His unit was also awarded the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and he the Combat Infantryman's Badge.
Dayton was 18 years old and the son of Ethel Irene Tucker.
