Pfc. Andrew N. Meari, 21, of Plainfield, Ill.,died Nov. 1 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. He attended Drauden Point Middle School and Plainfield South High School, receiving his diploma from Port Washington High School in Wisconsin where he graduated early. Throughout Andrew's military career he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Infantry Badge. Andrew was a passionate man and never did anything half way. Survived by his mother, Denise (Gerald) Meehan of Plainfield; father, Mahmoud (Aisha) Meari of Grafton, WI; two brothers, Ethan and Andrew; one sister, Jenna; beloved grandson of Vivienne Williams; dear nephew of many including Todd (Stacie) Williams, his Godfather; many cousins and dear friends also survive.
