Douglas G. Ballard was born June 26, 1946 in Bakersfield, California to Mary May Joyce and Quint Lee Ballard. He passed away July 31, 2009 at Altus, Oklahoma at the age of 63 years, 1 month and 5 days.
Douglas' father was in the Air Force. The family traveled with him to bases in California, Morocco, England and Michigan. He attended many schools including Elementary School at Duke, OK. In 1964, he graduated from Central High School in London, England. He returned to the United States and began to attend college in Omaha and Minneapolis, later joining his family in Michigan where he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966. He was stationed in England where he met Hilary Gillett and they were married in High Wycombe, Bucks, England on June 14, 1969. They lived in Germany, Albuquerque, NM, Missouri and Lakenheath, England before transferring to Altus where he retired in 1987 as a Captain after 21 years of service to his country. Douglas taught at the Vo-Tech in Altus as a nursing instructor for a year. He later worked at the Mangum City Hospital, Great Plains Regional Medical Center and the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital among many others in Western Oklahoma and Texas. In 1992 he began The Registry which he operated until 1998 when he opened the Uniform Depot in Elk City until ill health forced his retirement. He enjoyed helping others and spent time volunteering at that Pregnancy Care Center and Elkwood Assisted Living Center. His main love was his church, his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
