John Piepho Killed At Hebron, Indiana
John H. Piepho, aged 72 years, a former resident of Brunswick, Hanover township, but for the past nineteen years a farmer residing near the southern limits of Hebron, met instant death Tuesday morning when a Holstein bull crushed his left side and broke the left arm.
No one was present when Piepho met his death, it being presumed that the bull, possibly in a playful mood rather than in anger, crushed him against the side of his pen.
A few moments before he was found fatally injured, Piepho and a hired man changed him from one pen to another and it was while the animal was being taken back to his original place that Piepho's death occurred, just how no one knows. The hired man was hauling fertilizer at the time and can offer no details concerning the untimely death of his employer.
The animal was never regarded as trustworthy, but it is believed that in a playful state of mind attacked Piepho unawares.
The deceased has a large family of relatives in Hanover township. He is survived by a widow, three sons and a daughter: Arthur, residing north of Crown Point; Albert, at home; Edward of Detroit, Michigan and Dorothy of Scotia, Nebraska.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Hebron, Friday afternoon, Crown Point, Indiana.
Mrs. Roy Schoemaker of Scotia is a daughter of Mr. Piepho. She and Mr. Shoemaker returned Wednesday afternoon from Hebron, Indiana.
