SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
Frank Carpenter was born April 4, 1881 in Ottawa, Illinois and was the son of Walter P. and Emma (Van Brunt) Carpenter. He stood five foot eight inches tall and had a dark complexion. His occupations included carpenter and night watchman.
Enlisted June 28, 1898 in Davenport, Iowa. Assigned to Company "M", 50th Regiment Iowa Infantry. Discharged November 30, 1898 at Des Moines, Iowa with rank of Private. Pension awarded on Certificate No. 1,204,609.
Mr. Carpenter was married to Lavina Pearl Hart on October 28, 1908 in Rock Island, Illinois. He indicated that he and his wife divorced on October 22, 1927 and that he was the father of three children. Richard Penn Carpenter, age 17; Cecil Vivian Carpenter, age 16, and Vera Lucile Carpenter, age 14, lived with his mother, Mrs. Emma Carpenter, in Yakima in 1927. By 1959, only two of his children, Vera L. Sloan of San Francisco and Richard P. Carpenter of Seattle, were living.
Mr. Carpenter died at the age of 78 years at the Washington Veterans' Home on December 14, 1959. The Spanish American War Veterans officiated at his funeral. He is buried in the Home Cemetery.
