Long – time businessman dies: rites held Saturday

Eugene J. Schwebach, 60, life long resident of Dell Rapids, died July 13 in the Dell Rapids Hospital after an extended illness. Mass of the Resurrection was held Saturday morning in St. Mary Catholic Church and a Christian Wake service Friday evening. Msgr. L.F. Zwinger officiated. Burial took place in St. Mary Cemetery, Hermanson – Kahler Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Own Nelsen, Robert Haak, George Schwebach, Joe Zeig, Dennis Fjelanger and Earl Brown. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by the American Legion Post.

Eugene Schwebach was born August 10, 1916 to Mr. and Mrs. Nick Schwebach Sr., in Dell Rapids. He attended St. Mary school and after graduating from the eighth grade went to work for his father as an electrical contractor n the family business.

He served in the US Army in World War II. On March 4, 1944 he was married to DeLoris Lovell, De Smet, in St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.

He was a member of St. Mary Church, the Geo. A. Fitzgerald Post 65 American Legion and had served as a member of the Dell Rapids Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years.

He is survived by his widow, sons Dennis, Homestead, Fla.; Michael, Sioux Falls; Charles, Banks, Ore.; daughters Mrs. Dale (Debbie) Nelson, Dell Rapids, and Darla, Mitchell; seven grandchildren; his mother Mrs. Nick Schwebach Sr., brothers Nick, Leonard, Francis and Jerome, Dell Rapids; sister Mrs. John (Agnes) Kelley, Minneapolis; Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Donahue, Marshall, Minn.; and Mrs. Vern (Rita) Walker, Flandreau. He father preceded him in death.
