Earl Lee Franklin was born on March 4, 1928 in Tarkington, Texas. As a teenager, he moved to Houston then, in 1962, moved to Conroe. Earl served his country in the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army. In 1974, he began a business in Humble which he named Franklin Machine Works. Later, in1985, he bought out Texas Gear and changed the name of his business to Franklin Machine and Gear Corp. He was a Lifetime Member (50+ years) of the Masonic Lodge. In 1968, Earl became a Charter Member of the Sam B. Crawford Masonic Lodge #1418 A.F. & A.M. in New Caney, Texas. He was also a member of the Centerville Masonic Lodge #1291 A.F. & A.M. and the Jewett Masonic Lodge #427 A.F. & A.M. and was just elected Worshipful Master of the Jewett Lodge shortly before his death.

Since 1987, Earl lived in Leon County, Texas. He owned the Franklin Ranch near Marquez, Texas. The ranch and his work with the masons consumed his time during retirement.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maggie Jane Franklin, who died in 1987; his parents; brothers, Euthel, Roy and C.W. and sisters, Ruby, Grace and Verline. Earl died at his home in Centerville early Sunday morning, June 22, 2014.

Surviving family includes his wife, Linda Franklin of Centerville; sons Danny Franklin of Marquez, Larry Franklin (wife, Colette) of Conroe and Eddy Franklin (wife, Danna) of Conroe; step-children, Troy King of the Flo Community in Leon County and Scotty King (wife, Rose) of Centerville; sisters, Jewell Walker of Highlands and Billie Presswood of New Caney; grandchildren Jason, Travis, Adriene, Justin, Colby, Mark, Matthew, Trey, Samantha, Stormy, Clara, Roper, Haley and Trevor and great grandchildren Reese, Riley, Korbin, Maggie and Wyatt.

A visitation for family and friends of Earl Franklin is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 6 PM until 8 PM at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Funeral services for Earl Franklin are set for 10 AM, Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services are scheduled for that afternoon at 2 PM at the Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery in Conroe. Rev. Robert Besser and Bro. Louis Mize will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers are Jason Franklin, Travis Franklin, Justin Franklin, Colby Franklin, Mark Franklin, Matthew Franklin, Trey King and Garrett Shafer. Honorary pallbearers are the rest of the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
