Stigler, OK- PARSONS, Gordon, 18, student, died Friday. Funeral services were scheduled for today at 10 a.m. at Stigler High School Gymnasium. Arrangements are under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.

Gordon James Parsons, 18, Stigler High School Senior died Friday, September 21, 2012 at Tamaha. He was born August 3, 1994 to John E. and Leslie (McBride) Parsons. He grew up at Tamaha where he enjoyed the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing and noodling. He was a gifted student-athlete and excelled in football, basketball and baseball. He was an accomplished guitarist who loved playing songs too, and also about his friends. He will be remembered as a "big" storyteller who loved writing music. He was a member of the high school drama team and often earned leading roles. He is a lifelong member of the Stigler First Baptist Church Youth Group. Gordon will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He is survived by his parents, Leslie and Tommy Joe Bryce of Stigler, John E. and Tina Parsons of Tamaha; one sister, Kirstie Parsons of Tamaha; one brother, John Henry Parsons of Tamaha; four stepsisters, Misty Wells, Jessika Nolen, Makayla Nolen, and Bethany Bryce; one niece, Jerzi Nolen; his grandparents, Frankie Davis, Jim & Diane Sheives, William O. Parsons; great grandmother, Nova Ross; one uncle, William G. Parsons. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Stigler High School Gym with Reverend Mike Walker officiating. Pallbearers will be Logan Shimp, Gary Brown, John Self, Sam Walker, Chance Shearwood, and Terry Stevens. Honorary pallbearers include the Stigler High School football and baseball teams, coaches and trainers. Burial will follow at Tamaha Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.

Stigler Public Schools will be closed Tuesday as students and others in a community reeling from the death of a popular high school student remember him. Gordon Parsons, a 3-year defensive starter on the Stigler Panthers football team, was found dead in Tamaha Friday night. A memorial and funeral service will be held in the high school gym at 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to Superintendent Clayton Edwards. "We are deeply saddened," Edwards said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family." School counselors, as well as counselors from the Stigler Ministerial Alliance and two other counselors, were on hand at the school Monday morning to help students deal with their pain and grief. "Our whole community is hurting," Edwards said. "We appreciate everyone keeping us and the family in their thoughts and prayers." Classes will resume Wednesday.
