Private Finds Iwo
Fighting 'Rough'
The going on Iwo Jima is "plenty rough," Pfc. Ivan Rogers has written his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Rogers, 1226 Pine. His letter was dated Feb. 27.
Private Rogers, who is with the 3rd Marines, compared his foxhole to a hotel, stating that he was on a hill overlooking the ocean. He said that his room was two feet wide, six feet long and two feet deep, that the bath facilities were good when it rained, and that all that was necessary to do to get a shave and haircut was to raise his head out of the hole.
"Thank God I'm still alive," he wrote.
