Frederick A. Schoen, resident of Jefferson county for many years, passed away Sunday, September 3, at the Grace Convalescence Home in Beatrice, Nebr., at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 12 days.
Frederick August Schoen, son of John Schoen and Emilie Streich Schoen, was born March 21, 1874, in LaSalle, Illinois. He was baptized in infancy and was confirmed April 14, 1889, in Zion's Evangelical and Reformed church, east of Gladstone.
When still an infant he came with his parents to Jefferson County, Nebr.
On May 3, 1897, he married Anna Clara Elgert and to them 12 children were born, two of them, Emma Emilie and Albert Leopold, preceding him in death. His wife passed away November 26, 1940.
He was occupied in farming, residing near Gladstone. After his retirement he made his home in Gladstone and later with his daughter, Darlene, Mrs. Ernest Pavlicek in Fairbury. Suffering from the infirmities of old age, he spent the past year in the Grace Convalescence Home at Beatrice.
Surviving are 10 children, Mrs. John Bauer of Chester, Mrs. Elmer Bauer of Oak, Herman Schoen of Diller, Wilbur (sic) Ehlers of Raymond, Mrs. Fred Fett of Reynolds, Carl Schoen of Fairbury, Mrs. Sherman Goldsberg (sic) of Hollenberg, Kansas, Paul Schoen of Petaluma, Calif., Lawrence Schoen of Byron and Mrs. Ernest Pavlicek of Fairbury; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Kapke and Mrs. Lena George, both of Fairbury, and Mrs. Louise Miller of Spokane, Wash., 29 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Zion Ev. and Reformed church, east of Gladstone, with the pastor, Rev. D. Buelter, officiating. Pallbearers were Emil Schoen, Wayne Elgert, Earl Elgert, Walter Elgert, Raymond Junker and Elmer Kapke. Burial in the church cemetery. Traum service.
