Curtis Roosevelt Hutchens, 79, of Muskogee, went to his heavenly reunion on Tuesday, May 11, after an extended illness. Family members were at his side.

Curtis was born March 28, 1933 in Braggs, OK to Selmar and Millie (Stapp) Hutchens. He attended schools in Braggs and spent many happy hours of adventures with his brothers, sisters and dear friends, Bob Rolland and Jim Jones. He and Jim were famous for their insatiable appetites. They would eat a meal at Curtis's house, and then go to Jim's and eat again and then on to his brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Lela's house and eat again, as if they had never had a bite. Curtis and Bob had so many adventures such as aggravating his teacher and sister-in-law, Modena as Jr.High students.

At 17 Curtis joined the U.S. Navy in May of 1950, along with buddies, Bob, Ken and Bobby Hayes and Pat Pierce. He proudly served his country during the Korean War, spending a year in Japan. After returning home in 1955, he attended Northeastern State College and met and married Frankie Alice Tidwell on April 20, 1956. From this union two sons were born, Curtis R. Hutchens, Jr. and Stephen Barney Hutchens. In the following years, Mr. Hutchens worked as route salesman and owned several local businesses. During this time, he was very involved in and dearly loved his sons' racing activities.

He is survived by his sons, Curt, Jr. and wife, Carol, and Steve and wife, Terri, all of Muskogee. Grandchildren, Allison Hutchens, Bradley Hutchens, and Whitney and Robert Anderson. Great-grandchildren, Marlon Younger and Robert Anderson, his former wife, of 56 years Frankie Hutchens, Muskogee, brother, Dewey and Modena Hutchens, of Braggs, sisters, Wanda and Fred Irving and Betty and Bill Smallwood of Braggs, brothers-in-law, Glenn and Mini Brooks of Midwest City, Jim, Tommy, Leroy and Leon Tidwell. Sisters-in-law, Charlene Hutchens, Alma, AR, and Betty and Paul Martin, Joyce, CA. Special nephews, Terry Hutchens of Braggs and Harold Hutchens, Wagoner, special nieces, Shannon Vidacak, Braggs, Fran Barker, Winchester, VA, and special friends, Bob and Freda Rolland, Muskogee. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
