Private, Company E, 7th US Cavalry Regiment. He was killed, along with General George A. Custer and most of his unit, during the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

He enlisted on September 18, 1873, at the age of 21, in New York City, giving his previous occupation as Shoemaker. He had blue eyes, light hair, a fair complexion, and was 5 feet, 5 1/2 inches tall. During the battle, his company was assigned to the Custer column and his unit was wiped out on Last Stand Hill. After the battle, the bodies were buried where they fell, and a year later, were dug up and reburied in a mass grave at the top of Last Stand Hill. His mother, Mary, received a pension of $12 per month.
