Linda was the wife of Gerald Peugeot, who was serving overseas in the U.S. Navy. While he was gone, his wife and baby daughter, Lori, were living with relatives in Bel Air, Maryland, awaiting his return. On September 22, 1969, the day before Lori's third birthday, Linda took her shopping. They were in the parking lot of the department store, when Stanley Barton Hoss, Jr., abducted them at gunpoint, forcing them into their Pontiac GTO. An escaped rapist and murderer of police officer, Joseph Zanella, he demanded Linda drive him to Canada. He was apprehended in the GTO two weeks later in Iowa. He later confessed that Linda had agreed to take him to Canada, but became afraid for her daughter's safety in Pennsylvania and refused to go further. Hoss says he shot her, put her body in the trunk, and then shot and killed Lori several days later. In 1978, he committed suicide in prison. Linda and Lori's remains have never been found, and this is their only place of remembrance.
