A native of Pipeston, Minn., he came to Winter Haven in 1966 from Woodstock, Minn. He was a graduate of Winter Haven High School and had served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam conflict. Mr. DeWitte was an Eagle Scout in Troop 123, Winter Haven. Attended flight school in Greely, Colo., and at the time of his death, he was with the Ag-Air Flying Co. of Water-proof, La., as an agriculture pilot. He had previousley been a pilot with Formett Flying Service and the Lyons Flying Co. in Louisiana, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Winter Haven.
John J. DeWitte was preceded in death by his sister Doreen Faye DeWitte.
Survivors include his parents, Richard and Doris DeWitte, Winter Haven; and Ann Black, Lakeland; his brothers, Alan D. (Donna), Richard L. (Debbie), Diane (Christopher) Van den Avont and Tom D. Dewitte.
