Approximately 65 men from Washington County were sent to Europe during WWI, and Ben Reue and Willie Rosenbaum were among them. The two soldiers stayed together overseas, and when they contracted the flu in 1918 they were sent to the same field hospital in France. Willie died overnight (Ben survived), and his body was returned to the States in 1921. He was later buried at St. John's Cemetery in Burton.
