The Delta Democrat Times Greenville, Mississippi, Aug. 25, 2008: Funeral services for Johnie Faye Potts Shields, 89, of Greeville, a homemaker, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Aug 23, 2008, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Antioch Cemetery, Bruce.

Johnie was born October 17, 1918, in Calhoun County to the late John and Etta Reed Potts. She married L. B. Shields in Marks on Nov. 11, 1939. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L. B. Shields,; a brother, Wilsey Potts; a sister, Ardell Sexton; and a son-in-law, Harold Groce.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Shields of Greenville and Sandra Shields Groce of Greenwood, Ind.; two grandchildren, Tanya (Anthony) Hathaway of Pittsboro, Ind., and Joseph Anthony Hathaway of Salem, Ark.; three sisters, Billie Jenkins of Sherwood, Ark., Inez Hodge of Eustis, Fla., and Ann Payseur of Summerville, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Delta Regional Medical Center for the compassionate care they provided. Also, they would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Darrell N. Blaylock for his dedication, compassion and support to the family.
