A young child of Charles Keeney, superintendent of the Steelton electric light plant, residing on Short Street of that borough, drank carbolic acid yesterday about noon and died about 3:30 o'clock in the afternoon.
The child, which was but a toddler, wandered alone into a room where the carbolic acid was kept, and before the mother knew what was going on had swallowed a large portion of the liquid. The screams of the little victim brought Mrs. Keeney at once to the child's side and medical attendance was summoned. The doctors worked for several hours but too much of the poison had been absorbed and the little one died in great agony. [Patriot News - September 18, 1901]
