Officer Jerry Wayne Morris was a member of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC.

On December 4, 1971, while off duty, Officer Jerry Wayne Morris, 22 years of age, was killed in an incident at South Capitol Street and Portland Aveune SE, opposite the entry to Bolling Air Force Base.

Officer Morris was a passenger in an automobile being operated by another off duty member when a dispute arose between them and another group of people in another automobile. During this dispute, shots were fired and Officer Morris was struck and dragged by the other automobile. Officer Morris died at Cafritz Memorial Hospital as a result of being struck by the other automobile.

Several arrests were made in connection with this case, but the charges were later dropped.

Officer Morris had been assigned to the Fifth Police District and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was appointed to the police department on June 14, 1969.

Officer Morris' arrangements were handled by the Tyson Wheeler Funeral Home located at 1331 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. On December 9, his services were held at Kensington Baptist Church, 10100 Connecticut Avenue, Kensignton, Maryland, and he was interred at Rockville Cemetery.

Officer Morris was survived by his father, Hontas D, brothers, Paul, Daniel, Philip, and sisters, Debbie, Carla, and Brenda Davis. Officer Morris was also survived by grandparents, Ben T., and Myra Morris and Ginnie Shelton.
