His religious life was a vital part of his pioneering, for on his homestead in Custer County, was built a Baptist Church, and for years he was the leading spirit of the church and remained a member there until his death.

He was recognized as a man of sterling integrity and honor, and was respected by all who knew him.

Since the death of his wife, seven years ago, he has made his home with the children.

The funeral services were held Sunday, December 28, 1924, from the United Brethern Church at Kearney, Nebraska, conducted by the Rev. E. H. King and the Rev. D I. Coon of the Baptist Church who preached the sermon. The body was laid to rest beside his good wife in Kearney Cemetery.

Bio compiled from family member prepared obituaries. NOTE: Inscribed date on headstone reads Dec 24, 1924 - differs from death certificate. Also, his death certificate states he was 85y 10m 7d at time of death, this calculates to a DOB of February 19, 1839. Have used headstone date for birthdate.
