Joseph M. Cooper, 51, of O'Fallon, Ill., born Nov. 28, 1959 in Chicago, Ill., passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill., after a courageous battle with cancer.

Joe was a 1977 graduate of Okawville High School. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He had a magnetic personality and cared about all those he met. His witty humor and positive outlook was a real treat for those who knew him. In life, Joe was an avid fisherman. He loved the outdoors, camping. He also had a passion in his work with PhotoShop.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Celine, nee Davies, Cooper.

Surviving are his brother, Scott (Patty) Cooper of Belleville, Ill.; two sons, Ryan Cooper of St. Louis, Mo., and Jared (Alissa) Cooper of Fairview Heights, Ill.; a daughter, Nicole Bowers of Okawville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Kaleb, Kiley and Kolby Joe Bowers; and many special and dear friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses at St. Elizabeth's ICU, especially Shelley, and to Billie and Nikki from Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care to Joe and his family.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Service: Per Joe's wishes his body was donated to science. There will be a Memorial service held at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011 at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Belleville, Ill. There will also be a luncheon at noon Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Steamfitters Local 439 Union Hall in Caseyville, Ill.
