Mrs. Beaulah Williams, "Grandma" Price, as she was known to many that knew her, age 111, died on Sunday, February 15, 2004, at Heritage Inn Rehabilitation Center after a very, very brief illness. She was a Screven County native born on November 30, 1892, and was raised in Bulloch County. She was a domestic worker and was married to the late Mr. Ed Price. To this union two children were born, Mary Lee and Wilbert, which, along with her husband, preceded her in death. She was a faithful member of Hodges Grove Baptist Church.
"Grandma" received local, state and national recognition due to her longevity and excellent health. She has been featured on the Discovery Channel and in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She has participated in numerous genetics studies sponsored by the University of Georgia, University of Michigan and Duke University. She was one of Georgia's oldest citizens. She always wanted to be referred to as "Grandma".
She is survived by five generations totaling at least 100. Her grandchildren are Elnora Cooper, Leola (David) Washington, Naomi (Bennie) Campbell and Evelyn Price, all of Statesboro, Tommy (Willie Mae) Williams, Larry (Alice) Williams, all of Portal, and Zadie Cone who preceded her in death. She also helped rear Cynthia (Wilbert) Burroughs of Statesboro, Freddie (Patricia) Williams and Gordon Alfred Cone, all of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 32 great-grandchildren, 56 great-great-grandchildren, two great-great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hodges Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.
