His wife was Maria Ellen Gray, whom he married April 17th 1851 in Caroline County. His occupation was as a carpenter. At the outbreak of war he resided in Richmond and enlisted there on May 13th 1861. He was detailed to work on gunboats in Richmond. He served in the 4th Battalion Local Defense Troops while on that detail. He was captured at Exeter Mills on April 3rd 1865 and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland. He took the Oath of Alligeance there on June 6th 1865. His pension was dated June 24th 1902.
