Football Hall of Fame Team Owner. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was a successful businessman and administrator of the Chicago Bears when he bought the then NFL Chicago Cardinals for $50,000 in 1933. As owner of the team from 1933 to 1947, his biggest interest in the sport was to win a NFL Championship which the Cardinals did taking the 1947 NFL title only eight months after his death. He died of pneumonia at age 51 and was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967.
