Clarence Dean Hillestad Jr., 27 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hillestad Sr. of Kenmare, died almost instantly when the car he was driving went out of control and rolled over along Highway 52 inside the city limits of Kenmare. The accident happened about 8 p.m. Friday evening. Hillestad was heading north when he turned out to pass another car. He swerved towards the ditch to avoid another oncoming vehicle, losing control of his car. Hillestad was thrown from the car, along with a passenger, Meredith Ness, age 25, of Amarillo, Tex.

Both men were taken to the Kenmare Deaconess Hospital where Hillestad died a short time later. Ness was treated and released. The accident happened near the Boeing Trailer Court in Kenmare.

Funeral services were held for Clarence Dean Hillestad at 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon from the Church of the Nazarene in Kenmare with Rev. Ellen Doke officiating. Music was provided by Alvis Martinson at the organ, a duet by Mrs. Curtis Kohler and Mrs. James Wagner, and guitar music by Ron Ostberg, Randy McPhee and Jason Mendenhall. Pallbearers were Allen Johnson, Dennis Engeberg, Arlen Schweitzer, Doug Mattern, Ron Osterberg, and Jack Zeltinger. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery with Daniel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hillestad was born Oct. 16, 1949 in Kenmare to Clarence and Hilda (Moen) Hillestad. He attended schools in Kenmare, graduating from KHS, and attended the Canadian Nazarene College and Minot State College, majoring in music. He gave private lessons in guitar, piano, and vocal music for a time and played lead guitar in various musical groups in the area.

He was united in marriage to Marjorie Demas on Nov. 6th, 1975 at Kenmare and was presently employed by Western Geophysical Company, working out of Kenmare.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hillestad, a brother Henry, of Cutbank, Mont., and sister, Mrs. Carlen (Connie) Jungberg of Towner, and several nieces and nephews.
