Lin was born Lilly Mae, but changed her name to Lin when she was an adult. She was born in Oklahoma City to John David and Winnie Ward Freeman. She was one of eleven children. Lin had beautiful green eyes with touches of gold and brown in them. She was kind of short, only 5 feet tall, and her husband was 5' 11". She loved art and antiques and bought many beautiful pieces during our Air Force stay in Dreux and Evreux France, 1962-1964. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart.

During the drought in Oklahoma in the 1930s, the soil turned to dust, and blew eastward in large dark clouds. These dust storms had names such as "Black Blizzards", and often reduced visibility to a few feet. The Dust Bowl affected 100,000,000 acres, and centered on the panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma, and parts of New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas.

In the 1930's Lin's grandfather, Willie, left Oklahoma with others who migrated to California. A few years later she and her family, John and Winnie and the other children went west to CA also. They were called "Okies", and their story is written about in John Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath". There is also a two part series about the migration of these people to California on PBS.

My grandparents settled in Merced, where Lin grew up. She married Luther Harvey Brady in 1949. They had three daughters who are still living. Lin became a widow at age 45. She somehow managed to survive for over thirty years without remarrying. During that time she earned a BS degree in Psychology at San Jose State College. Lin died of cancer in Davis California.
