James Edwin Brookshire, son of the late William J. and Annie Linderman Brookshire, went into the arms of his heavenly Father on Thursday, May 12, 2011.
Jimmie was born on April 26, 1923, in Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
He was predeceased by his son, Brian Keith Brookshire of Charlottesville, Virginia; and two brothers, John and Charles Brookshire of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
He is survived by his wonderful wife, Margaret "Margie" Carter Brookshire of Charlottesville, Virginia; his son, Danny Vaughn Brookshire; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Dee Brookshire, both of Crozet, Virginia; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and also by Jennie Knott of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Jimmie was a communications sergeant with the 5th Airborne Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked as a pharmacist for 42 years. His career included the pharmacy at CVS Barracks Road, Charlottesville, and CVS in Waynesboro.
Jimmie was a faithful husband for 64 years and loved his family, fishing, and a good joke. He enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader, teaching Sunday school, gardening, playing harmonica, and singing.
The family thanks The Hospice of the Piedmont for their gentle care and support.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Church of the Blue Ridge, Afton, Virginia.
