CHEROKEE - Samuel E. "Sam" Jones, 68, of Cherokee, died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at his home.
He was born Aug. 10, 1936 in Weir. He attended Weir elementary and high schools. He had been a lifetime resident of the area.
He married Mary Ann Mummert on Aug. 10, 1956 in Columbus. She survives of the home.
As a young man he worked for Freeto Construction. Later he worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 38 years, retiring in 1995.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Karen Scott of rural Scammon, Susan Crowley of Pittsburg, and Cathy Parsons of West Mineral; brother, Don Jones of Ketchum, Okla.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Corky Jones.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb., 25, 2005 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, with Rev. James Shope officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St. Weir.
