Singer and Songwriter. Legendary musician who wrote such country classics as "I Can't Stop Loving You," "Sweet Dreams," and "Oh Lonesome Me." An elementary school drop out, he and others helped create the "Nashville Sound" in the 1960s that remains an influence today. "I Can't Stop Loving You" was recorded by more than 700 artists, but Ray Charles' 1962 version was the biggest hit. His writing style used plain language and riveting melodies to communicate strong emotions. He usually wrote about solitude and sadness involving love, earning him the nickname "the sad poet."
