He was killed by a remote car bomb while conducting combat operations on his second tour in Iraq. He graduated from Mentor High School [Ohio] in 2000 and, when he left Ohio to join the Marines, his best friends and hockey buddies went with him. The group became known as the Mentor 7, a group of seven friends and brothers who served together. He faced combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and attended paratrooper and sniper schools. In Iraq, the children called him "Mr. Ski." He became an ambassador of sorts to the locals. Recently, he had been distributing toys and clothes to Iraqi children.
