Jean McKee Walsh

Jean McKee Walsh, 69, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016, in Memphis, due to complications from surgery. Her beautiful soul now sings alto in the heavenly choir.
She was born in Memphis on August 8, 1946, to the late Charles Claiborne McKee and Era Belle Marshall McKee. She graduated from Kingsbury High School (1964), and from then Memphis State University (1968) with a B.A. in Business Administration (Accounting).
She married Thomas J. Walsh, Jr., also of Memphis, in May 1969. They remained deeply in love, together in sickness and health, until death has now parted them 47 years later.
Jean held various jobs that employed her accounting skills, spending the last decades of her career in the travel industry, first as a travel agent, then as an administrator with Pinnacle Airlines in Memphis (now Endeavor), where she was honored as one of the company's top employees.
She was active in church all her life. She and Tom grew up at Berclair Baptist Church, spent 40+ years as members of Prescott Memorial Baptist Church, and when that congregation disbanded, they joined Shady Grove Presbyterian Church. She served God in many ways through her church and in other venues. She taught children's Sunday School, sang in the choir, handled finances, served on countless committees, tended to a fair trade store, ushered, and did pretty much all that needed to be done. She fed the hungry in soup kitchens, visited the sick and bereaved, stood up for the poor and oppressed, and in innumerable ways followed in the footsteps of the Lord of love.
Most of all she loved children. She and Tom were richly blessed with two of their own, Courtney Walsh Marsh (Peter), now of Fairfax, VA, and Meredith McKee Walsh (Kyle Tingley), now of Worcester, MA. She was enormously proud of her daughters and sons-in-law and loved them beyond measure. And nothing made her spirit soar higher than her three granddaughters, Molly (14), Becca (12), and Amelia (8) Marsh.
In addition to these family members, her survivors include two loving and devoted sisters, Virginia Worley of Oakland, TN, and Mary Jo Sowell of Southaven, MS, together with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jean and Tom enjoyed baseball, especially the Memphis Redbirds and the St. Louis Cardinals, and they traveled widely together. She read extensively and followed current events. She was curious, funny, compassionate, and generous. Her final act of generosity was to donate her remains to advance the cause of medical education.
A memorial service will be held at Shady Grove Presbyterian Church, 5530 Shady Grove Road, Memphis, TN 38120 at 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, June 25, followed by visitation and refreshments in the church's Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Shady Grove Presbyterian Church or to the Worcester Refugee Assistance Project (WRAP).
