After his playing career ended, he turned to radio and did the play-by-play of the Cincinnati Reds from 1942 through 1965. During rain delays, he filled the time by telling listeners of his days as a player and teammate of Babe Ruth. He also did commentary on the Reds' televised games during the 1972 season.
