Rev. Sammie David Epperson, Sr., age 87, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at 5:15 pm, with his wife, best friend and bride, Jo Fortner Epperson, by his side. They were married 2 years.

He lived in the Heiskell area most of his life. He came here from Tazewell as a young man and married Goldie Mae Ruth Stringfield (Peggy). They were married for 51 years then God called her home, September 6, 1998. Their children, a son, Sammie David Epperson, Jr. of Heiskell, (Wife: Gail Epperson, son, Kevin Null.) Their daughter, Rebecca Epperson Fraker, of Heiskell, (Husband: Don Fraker.) His precious and loving granddaughter, Rachel Donielle Firman, husband, Jason Firman, his adoring, Great Grandson, Zachary Jeremiah Firman, Halls, TN. Very Special Granddaughter, Scarlet Samantha Fraker, Knoxville.

Sammie was a pastor of several churches, Wolf Valley Baptist Church, Piney Grove Baptist Church, East Oldham Street Baptist Church, Old Pleasant Gap Church, Dutch Valley Baptist Church, Pine Ridge Baptist Church, and West Emory Baptist Church. He built and remodeled many churches while he was the active pastor. He loved all these churches and people. He loved everyone.

Sammie served as a Marine stationed in Parris Island S.C. and was a veteran of World War II where he was station at Guantanamo Bay. He was a Masonry Contractor and owned and operated Epperson's Grocery and Hardware with his family for many years. He loved farming and raising farm animals. He loved gardening and sharing it with others.

He was preceded in death by wife, Goldie Epperson; father, Willie Epperson; mother, Sarah West
Epperson. He was raised by his grandfather, Sam West and grandmother, Rachel West, after the death of his mother, Sarah, at a very young age.

His celebration of life and GOD's Ministry will be August 12th at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Rocky Top (Lake City) from 4 pm to 7 pm, with funeral service beginning at 7 pm. Preachers, Rev. Jerry Walton, Rev. Jerry Copeland, and Rev. Billy Moore. Singing by Brother Bill Copeland and family and Jim Bo Duncan, and Gwen Vann.

Burial, August 13th at 12:00 pm, Woodhaven Memorial Garden.
