OBITUARIES
MILDRED ANN STRONG
Mildred Ann Strong, 83, of La Grande, died Sunday, June 2, 1996, at St. Luke Hospital in Boise. A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints La Grande Stake Center. Dedication of the grave and interment will follow. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the stake center. Mrs. Strong was born on June 22 1912, to James Hirst and Pearl (Bowthorp) Thompson in Springfield, Idaho. The family moved to Union in 1918. In 1930, she graduated from La Grande High School and later attended Eastern Oregon State College. On June 7, 1934, she married Leonard Strong is Salt Lake City. He died on Jan. 15, 1950. Mrs. Strong was the secretary for Bill Thomas Real Estate for 27 years without taking a day of sick leave. She was a ward librarian for the LDS Church for about 30 years and held many other callings in the church. She also served as a Temple Worker in Boise. Her other memberships included the Credit Women's Association, of which she was past president, and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Survivors include her children, Carol and Ray Wilhelm of Elgin; Beverly Kirkwood of La Grande; Myron and Martina Strong of Springfield; Alan and Debbie Strong of La Grande and Merril and Cherie Strong of Boise 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Luana and Charles Peck of La Grande; sister and brother-in-law, Afton and Gerald Case of La Grande; sisters, Athella King of Seattle and Della Hughes of Salt Lake City; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. The family has requested flowers, or donations may be sent to the Family History Center, 2504 N. Fir St., La Grande 97850.
