Death: May 22, 1951

Maternal great-grandfather, Lucian Nathaniel Jackman, aka "Pa" and "L.N.", was eldest son of William Woodson Jackman and Arrania Basham Jackman. I remember his death, my grandmother's broken heart, and his body being 'laid out' in his casket for viewing and visitation in the 'parlor' of his and Granny's farm home; service at graveside.

L.N.'s grandfather, Wm Thomas Jackman, gave each of his nine daughters a farm. The farm Pa owned was the one given to his aunt who had no children: Josephine Jackman, wife of Dr B.J. Shipley.

Pa had ten children; nine from his first wife; one from his second; none from his 3rd:
-- 1st Marriage: 28 Dec 1886, Pa married Bettie Chapman, daughter of John T Chapman and Mary E Lyons. He and Bettie were each 18 years old when they wed. She d.1905 following the birth of their 9th child, Allen. Baby Allen later passed of the same cause of death as his mother, tuberculosis.
-- 2nd Marriage: 30 July 1906, Pa married Nora Maude Brown, daughter of James H and Lizzie B. One year after they married, almost to the day, 29 July, 1907, Nora Maude died after giving birth to a baby girl four days earlier. The baby lived and was also named Nora Maude.
-- 3rd marriage: c.1910, Pa married James Ella Higdon, daughter of John and Susan Elizabeth 'Bettie' Owen Higdon. James was not an unusual name for ladies 'back in the day'. They had no children, and had a long and happy marriage of 40+ years. She was called, "Aunt Jim", "Jim Ella", "Granny", "Granny Jim", and was kind-hearted w/a sweet disposition. d.1959, outliving Pa by 8yrs. She was an excellent cook who worked tirelessly in an extremely hot kitchen on a huge wood stove, and made biscuits and gravy to die for.

Thank you, eboss, for transferring Pa to me.
